THANKSGIVING AROUND THE GLOBE!

Giving thanks is a human concept and the idea of a holiday giving Thanks is, of course, not an American concept. Here is another opportunity to teach the little ones how much we have in common with other cultures and how to the core - we are one big thankful human race. Here is a list of "thanksgiving" celebration that some other cultures celebrate! Just a little cosmopolitan information!

KOREA
Chuseok is three day harvest festival held around the autumn equinox. The celebration involves sharing traditional foods with loved ones and enjoying folk games and cultural traditions such as bullfighting and cockfighting.

BARBADOS
Crop Over is a traditional harvest festival which began in the late 17th Century in the sugar cane plantations of Barbados. Crop Over was originally a celebration celebrating the end of the yearly sugar harvest and is now Barbados' biggest national festival. Beginning in June, Crop Over it runs until the first Monday in August when it culminates in the finale.

IRAN
Mehregan is an Iranian festival celebrating friendship, affection and love. It is also widely referred to as Persian Festival of Autumn.

CHINA AND VIETNAM
The Mid-Autumn Festival (aka Moon Festival), is a popular harvest festival celebrated for over 3000 years! In Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines it is referred to as Lantern or Mooncake Festival. The festival is held around early September or early October. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.
