Philly's hottest 2010 gift is one that keeps on giving...

The phones are ringing off the hooks, and if my email in-box was an actual mail-box, it would be overflowing. 

Apparently, in Philadelphia this holiday season, the best way to show someone you care is by enabling them to permanently remove unwanted body hair! 

Yes, this year's hot ticket "Stocking Stuffer" request in Philadelphia has been for laser hair removal "Gift Certificates," and as Christmas gets closer, the phone-calls and emails are becoming increasingly urgent. (Thank goodness for the Santa helping/instant gratification convenience of "Gift Certificates" that can be sent via email!)

I know what you're thinking... "Sure. Men are probably happy to give this "gift" to their women, because a permanently hairless _____________ (fill in the blank) benefits them too!" However-- the interesting thing is that only about 50% of the requests are coming from men (husbands/boyfriends), and the rest are coming from female family members, with Mothers and sisters also vying to give the gift of hair removal. Plus, this gift is being given to men also!

The extra interesting part is that Philadelphia is a city that experiences all of the seasons, and Winter usually hits the City of Brotherly Love HARD. (Last year Philadelphia had almost 80 inches of snow dumped on it!) From the months of November through April, it's citizens remained bundled up against the cold... i.e. this isn't a place like Miami where skin is showing year-round, and hair removal is something that would be equally beneficial in December as it would in June.

So why all the clamor for hair removal gifts?? 

The most simple, easy to believe truth is probably the accurate one: when giving gifts, people want to give something that their loved ones will enjoy. 

Permanent laser hair removal can make many people's lives much easier-- whether they have problematic body hair or not (but obviously especially if the hair is problematic). Never having to shave, wax, pluck, or worry about unwanted hair again, is an absolute luxury. And like most luxuries, there is an investment required. In these complicated economical times, people may not be indulging in the things they want when the things they need might be more pressing.
