70's Story
It's no secret that I'm a fan of Karen Elson and I also love the distinctive styling of Venetia Scott. This editorial features both these women along with the fabulous photography of Horst Diekgerdes. This was taken for Another Magazine S/S 2004.

ALOTT5MA RECIPE DEPARTMENT: To make one Hallmark Hall of Fame film, mix the following:
- Adorably precocious child, ideally suffering from serious, yet vague, malady.
- Cantankerous older man played by beloved character actor who is taught that he can love again in part through the activities of adorably precocious child.
- Parent who wants to care for child in unorthodox way, played by recognizable, yet not particularly famous/costly, actor.
- Other parent, who at first disagrees with first patent's unorthodox plans, also played by recognizable, yet not particularly famous/costly, actor.
- (Optional) Add additional adorable/precocious children to taste.
- Framing device to reassure viewers all works out on the end.
- Self-evident Canadian filming locations.
- Cloying commercials about greeting cards.
WHY, I'D CUT OFF MY RIGHT ARM TO GET THAT GIG! Next year's Academy Awards will be hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. If it's like recent years, you'll see a lot of them in the first half-hour and then they'll disappear because the show has fallen hopelessly behind schedule. I'm sure they'll both be charming, but this doesn't much matter.
Christine's Cosmopolitan Question: Are You Going to Introduce Your Kids to Santa Clause?
I'm a little perplexed by the idea of Santa. I'm not sure if I'm going to tell Lady A about Santa Clause or not. At one end of the spectrum, I ask myself, "Why not? Isn't that part of the joys of childhood: wonder, amazement, and imagination? Plus, if I don't tell her about Santa Clause, does that mean I have to leave out the tooth fairy and other childhood characters that leaves us around preteen years?"
On the other end of the spectrum, I ask myself, "Why should I lie to her? Shouldn't I teach her about the beauty of working hard so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labor?" Perhaps I'm overanalyzing this question. In my parents day they just told us there was a Santa Clause and enjoyed eating the cookies and milk their children left for them, while they wrapped their gifts. My dad even dressed up like Santa Clause!
I guess part of the reason we tell our kids about Santa Clause is because we want to enjoy childhood all over again, because as we age and see our children grow up, we realize just how fleeting those moments are.
Do you tell your kid(s) about Santa? Why or why not?

Thanksgiving outfit
For Thanksgiving I wanted to get dressed up without wearing my go-to leggings and sweater dress, which I admit is amazingly comfortable. I also wanted a color that felt like fall to me. I had been eyeing this skirt from Forever 21 for some time now, but could never really justify the purchase until I felt the need to get something new for this holiday. Now that I have it I imagine wearing it many more times for work with a blazer and in the summer with a tank top or t-shirt tucked in. It will definitely be used a lot.
Target turtleneck; Forever 21 skirt; Nine West shoes; J.Crew, gifted, vintage pearls
Noticing the similar color pattern in our outfits, I couldn't help but force my older sister, Maria, into taking a picture with me. You can see we had the same colors in mind, but very different styles.

Aisha Considers Global Fruits!
***
Our family always hosts Thanksgiving dinner and this Thanksgiving my mother in law came to the house bearing fruit... lots and lots of fruit which we used to decorate the table. There was one particular fruit that no one really recognized very well - PERSIMMONS!
Although grown and consumed in the United States persimmons are native to China and for my family at least, not widely known. I didn't know much about this fruit other than that it looked a little like and reminded me a great deal of tomatoes. Found out that persimmons are glossy orange red skinned fruits and excellent sources of vitamin A, vitamin C, and rich in fiber. It got me to thinking - another way to create a little global citizen is by introducing them to exotic fruits from all areas of the globe. We all know about the standard apples and bananas and oranges - but how often do you include pineapples, kiwis, guava, figs and mangoes and persimmons in your little ones diet? Or what about papaya and passion fruit. Do your little ones know what they look like or what country they are grown in? Can they identify that country on a map?
Well - now we know about the persimmon and I am going to try to pick more up and more other great yummy fruits. Just some different options to create a more sophisticated kid palette.
Do you have suggestions for a global fruit that you enjoy! Please share.
